Circle Calendar
The year begins in April when the subscription for the forthcoming year is proposed and the officers who were elected in January are installed. Shortly after this meeting the Circle holds its AGM where the previous year's activities are reviewed.
All new members are encouraged to accept office when they feel comfortable with the idea. Eventually they will be invited to take on the Presidency, but acceptance is not compulsory
There is a Circle meeting every third Monday in the month except in December when the Circle holds its Christmas Dinner. After each meeting a free drink and supper is usually supplied to those who attend. Sometimes ladies are invited to attend for drinks before the meeting and to join the gentlemen afterwards. Other social events include:-
- A Clergy and Charter Dinner normally in February and dress is formal.
- The Ladies Night Dinner Dance in March where dress is formal.
- A Charity Event when money is raised for the President’s Charity.
- Two important events are the President’s Mass around June and the Memorial Mass in November. On both occasions refreshments are usually provided and families and friends are very welcome.
- Other events vary from year to year and have included trips to the Theatre, Manchester Ship Canal Sail, Quizzes, Ladies lunches, Golf and Bowls Tournaments, Fishing Competitions and Mass in York Cathedral.
Additionally, members may also attend Provincial social events these include:- A Summer Ball in June, Provincial Mass in September, Provincial Weekend normally in October, a Public Speaking Competition held in February for Catholic sixth form students and a Dinner in January. Other Circles in Province hold social events including Ladies Evenings, which members and their Ladies may attend.
It is hoped that new members will enjoy the varied list of activities, but there is no compulsion to attend any of them. The more a member does attend the more value he will gain from his membership subscription.
